Are moles blind?
I've heard the expression "blind as a mole" before, but are they actually blind? I know they have really tiny eyes and it must be hard for them to see at least, so how do they navigate underground? Huh

RE: Are moles blind?
Hi Chomper

A Moles typical life expectancy is three years and they grow approximately six to eight inches long and weigh three to six ounces.

There are 42 different species worldwide of moles; they are members of the mammal family Talpidae. A group of moles is known as a ‘labour’

The mole can move backwards as well as forwards, their fur is designed to move in both directions. They have sensitive whiskers which can detect the slightest vibrations in the ground.

Moles saliva contains a toxin, which can paralyse worms; this is so they can be stored underground for later consumption.

Ahh, very interesting information Digger! I always thought moles had weird fur, it must be because of how it's designed.

That's also really creepy that they have toxins in their saliva. I wonder if it can affect humans in some way if bitten... but I'm still not sure if moles are blind or not?

RE: Are moles blind?
Moles are NOT blind, but they do have very very poor eyesight. They travel wherever the soil takes them!

Thanks for the information Digger!

RE: Are moles blind?
In short, no they're not blind. They have really bad eyes but that's about it. Limited vision, but use their whiskers to detect nearby objects.

RE: Are moles blind?
That's weird, my grandma always used to tell me that they are indeed blind. I guess she must have been lying to me!

RE: Are moles blind?
Moles kinda creep me out, and the fact that they can't see where they are going but still manage to get around is even creepier.
