RE: Edible mushrooms
It sounds to me like a giant puffball mushroom they are unmistakable due to their size and grow in open grassland, they are an amazing tasting mushroom and can be cut into steaks and fried or used for an omelette, make sure to get an identification guide on edible fungi with photographs rather than illustrations and look at photos online to confirm its definitely a giant pufball - Lycoperdon gigantea
