I have come up with a few ideas with how to prevent Sparrows from eating from your bird feeder. They are:
  • Try not to use mixed seed (or cracked corn, they love that stuff)
  • Switch to blackoil sunflower seed as someone else suggested.
  • Try to have as little food on the ground, and use a tube feeder w/ perch

Hope you all find this useful
thanks a ton for this information kernel, I always wondered what ways I could keep sparrows out of my bird feeders. Thanks!
These are good tips for getting rid of those pesky sparrows, although I like them a bit. Another tip would be to have a cat, mine loves sparrows.
I really don't think you can stop these birds, they're quite persistent.
The aforementioned tricks will work to an extent, but keep in mind that sparrows are hardy little critters and will find a way to eat from your feeder despite it's make or food content.
