  • Light the Coals or Gas Burner Safely

One of the biggest places where people make an error is lighting the grill.  There are many different types of grills that you can have.  Some people have a gas grill that needs to be lit and others have charcoal one.  With a charcoal grill, make sure that you aren’t putting too much lighter fluid on it, you don’t want to light it and singe your hair and your eyebrows in the process.  With your gas grill, don’t turn it on until you are ready to light it, allowing the gas to stay on and release can be extremely dangerous.

  • Keep Children and Pets Clear of the Barbeque

  • Have Water Handy

When you are cooking things with fat and grease over an open flame, flare ups are bound to happen.  This is going to occur when grease drips down into the barbeque.  You want to make sure with this that you aren’t putting yourself in a dangerous position.  The best thing that you can do is have outside with you a spray bottle with water.  You can use the water to spray down any large flames and save yourself the hassle of ruining your food and putting yourself in the danger of a small fire, it will save a lot of hassle. Following these barbecue tips will keep you safe and will allow you to have an enjoyable time with your family.

Water is very important when barbequing. We once had a small fire start and we were lucky to have water near by. Always think safety first.

      Hi Sally

Thanks for your making such a good point. Barbequing is great fun but can be dangerous so it is important to take care and a small bucket of water nearby is a good idea.

I’d say fencing off a BBQ is essential, good tip! Our pool golden retriever hurt himself very badly as a pup jumping up to reach the nice smelling sausages on the grill. We just have a cornered off section on the patio that’s away from the seating area – so everyone is safe and can have a good time. Definately a useful article to read with a young family to consider.
